Summary

Masterpiece Theatre Uncle George has become engaged to a young waitress and Aunt Agatha wants Bertie to offer her a hundred pounds to end the scandalous engagement. Although Jeeves helps Wooster find a new, more suitably aged mate for his uncle, the... (more) two men abscond to the country knowing that Agatha will not approve of the new union either. While staying in the country mansion of Lord and Lady Wickhammersley, Jeeves and Wooster attend a village festival where Bingo Little suggests they gamble on various sporting events, although Lady Wickhammersley disapproves of any gambling because it is her husbands weakness. Wooster creates a secret gambling syndicate designed to accrue winnings, but the bookie - a sharpie named Steggles - has plans of his own that will impede Wooster's scheme. However, Wooster may hold the trump card in the person of his wily manservant. Originally aired in the UK as Series I, Episode 3: "The Purity of the Turf"
