Upstairs, Downstairs II: (10) What the Footman Saw

Jan 05, 1975 on PBS at 9:00 PM

Summary

Masterpiece Theatre While relaxing at The Crown and Anchor pub, Edward engages in footman gossip with his chums. He recounts what he witnessed during a recent stay Sommerby Park - that Lord Charles Gilmour was romancing the very married Lady Tewkesb... (more)ury. Unbeknownst to Edward, his tale was overheard by a private investigator, and soon he becomes embroiled in a scandalous divorce case Lord Tewkesbury is filing against his wife, and Edward is now the key witness. By the time Hudson and Richard explain the "ethics" of the situation (that loyalty is more important than truth), Edward is so thoroughly baffled and disillusioned by it all that he is considering giving up service and joining the Army.
